A quick thought this morning. It’s all very well me making pronouncements about reaching back in but unless I’m prepared to be specific, it’s not of much use to anyone.
Here’s one way I think it might be possible to reach back in.
When we meet our friends, usually the first thing we ask while we give them a hug is ‘how are you?’. The standard answer then kicks in – ‘good thanks’. And we’re taking our coats off in the coffee shop, and talking about the bus journey to get there, and the weather, and straight away the most important question of the day has disappeared amongst the trivia because we asked it first.
So how about waiting until the trivial bits of conversation have died down, and asking again:
So – how are things with you really?
Then keep quiet for a bit and listen in…….
